Synopsis :

From Dallas to Washington, a huge explosion sets the sky ablaze, spreading the remains of the Patriot space shuttle over thousands of square kilometers. The authorities quickly take control of the situation, but strange rumors begin to circulate: an unknown, highly toxic material, capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, has been found stuck to the fragments of the craft.

 

The Production:

In March 2004, Warner Bros. hired David Kajganich to write a script that would serve as a remake of the 1956 science fiction film Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In July 2005, Oliver Hirschbiegel was attached to direct, with production to begin in Edgemere, Maryland. The following August, Nicole Kidman was cast to star in the film, then titled Invasion. Invasion was based on the script by Kajganich, originally intended as a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but Kajganich crafted a different enough story for the studio to see the project as an original conception. Kajganich described the story to reflect contemporary times, saying, "You just have to look around our world today to see that power inspires nothing more than the desire to retain it and to eliminate anything that threatens it." The screenwriter said that the story was set in Washington, D.C. to reflect the theme. In August, Daniel Craig was cast opposite Kidman in the lead. The film, whose original title Invasion of the Body Snatchers was shortened to Invasion due to Kajganich's different concept, was changed once more to The Visiting so it would not be confused with ABC's TV series Invasion. In October 2006, the title was changed from The Visiting to The Invasion, due to the cancellation of the ABC TV series.

En mars 2004, Warner Bros. a engagé David Kajganich pour écrire un scénario qui servirait de remake du film de science-fiction Invasion of the Body Snatchers de 1956. En juillet 2005, Oliver Hirschbiegel est choisi pour réaliser le film, dont la production doit commencer à Edgemere, dans le Maryland. En août suivant, Nicole Kidman est choisie pour jouer dans le film, alors intitulé Invasion. Invasion est basé sur le scénario de Kajganich, initialement prévu comme un remake de Invasion of the Body Snatchers, mais Kajganich a conçu une histoire suffisamment différente pour que le studio considère le projet comme une conception originale. Kajganich a décrit l'histoire comme reflétant l'époque contemporaine, en disant : « Il suffit de regarder notre monde d'aujourd'hui pour voir que le pouvoir n'inspire rien de plus que le désir de le conserver et d'éliminer tout ce qui le menace. » Le scénariste a déclaré que l'histoire se déroulait à Washington, D.C. pour refléter le thème. En août, Daniel Craig est choisi pour jouer le rôle principal face à Kidman.
