Synopsis :
Arnie
is a boy shy and anxious. His overly obvious faults mark him out for
the vindictiveness of his high school friends, of whom he has become the
laughing stock and the victim. One day he sees the car of his dreams, a
1957 Plymouth Fury in poor condition. Listening only to his love at
first sight and braving all the difficulties, he buys the car and begin
to restores it.
But
since Arnie's parents refuse to let him keep the car at their house, he
begins to restore Christine at a local garage owned by the gruff Will
Darnell, who offers Arnie a part-time job and access to parts he needs
to fix Christine. Soon, Arnie develops a rebellious, arrogant
personality, worrying his parents and Dennis...
The Car :
Originally,
Carpenter had not planned to film the car's regeneration scenes, but
gave special effects supervisor Roy Arbogast three weeks to devise a way
for the car to rebuild itself. Arbogast and his team made rubber molds
from one of the cars, including a whole front end. One of the cars was
stripped of its engine to accommodate internally-mounted hydraulics that
pulled the framework inward, crumpling the car, with the shot then run
backwards in the final film. Twenty-three cars were used in the film.
Initially sold as scrap metal after filming ended, one of the best known
surviving vehicles was eventually rescued from the junkyard and
restored. It was subsequently bought by collector Bill Gibson of
Pensacola, Florida. One of the Christines was auctioned off at an
auto-auction in Florida in January 2020.
Synopsis :
Arnie
est un garçon timide et anxieux. Ses défauts trop évidents le rendent
vindicatif auprès de ses camarades de lycée, dont il est devenu la risée
et la victime. Un jour, il aperçoit la voiture de ses rêves, une
Plymouth Fury de 1957 en piteux état. N'écoutant que son coup de foudre
et bravant toutes les difficultés, il achète la voiture et entreprend de
la restaurer.
Mais
comme les parents d'Arnie refusent de le laisser garder la voiture chez
eux, il restaure Christine dans un garage local appartenant au bourru

La voiture :
À
l'origine, Carpenter n'avait pas prévu de filmer les scènes de
régénération de la voiture, mais a donné trois semaines au superviseur
des effets spéciaux Roy Arbogast pour trouver un moyen pour que la
voiture se reconstruise elle-même. Arbogast et son équipe ont fabriqué
des moules en caoutchouc à partir de l'une des voitures, y compris une
partie avant entière. L'une des voitures a été dépouillée de son moteur
pour accueillir un système hydraulique monté à l'intérieur qui a tiré le
cadre vers l'intérieur, froissant la voiture, le plan étant ensuite

utilisées dans le film. Initialement vendu comme ferraille après la fin

été sauvé de la casse et restauré. Il a ensuite été acheté par le

Synopsis :
On the boat linking Hong Kong to Macau, the capital of games and crime, Lawrence Trumble, an undercover police officer, Julie Benton, a cabaret singer and a former GI on the run, Nick Cochran, meet. They will meet at the Cabaret run by Vincent Halloran, the godfather of the local underworld, where Julie sings. Cochran decides to help Trumble stop Halloran, "a big shot", owner of many gambling establishments...
The Production
Macao was the second feature that Josef von Sternberg filmed to fulfill a two-picture contract with RKO Pictures then owned by Howard Hughes. Shooting began in September 1950 and was released in April 1952.
Sternberg's habit of handling actors "as mere details of décor" elicited strenuous objections from stars Jane Russell and Gloria Grahame such that "the shooting of Macao has become a minor legend." John Baxter reports that "fights on the set" were not uncommon, and were manifested in the "strained" performances of the cast.

L'habitude de Sternberg de traiter les acteurs « comme de simples détails de décor » suscita de vives objections de la part des stars Jane Russell et Gloria Grahame, de sorte que « le tournage de Macao est devenu une légende mineure ». and Texas Street. Other portions of the film were shot in Palm Springs,
